Rank1 makes a difference with the right people in the right places.

Rank1 helps clients with IT infrastructure. The company grew into an established player in just a few years. There is hardly any turnover in the +55-member team of IT Infrastructure specialists and project managers. This is due to a unique hr approach. Founder Peter Vindevogel explains.

Specialization and flexibility in IT infrastructure

"IT infrastructure is a complex story. As a business leader, do you make the choice of cloud or on-premise? How do you secure your data? How do you build an environment that allows employees to work productively? How do you respond flexibly to market changes without having to invest in your own IT team? Rank1 makes specialist knowledge accessible to medium-sized SMEs and large companies. We go for a long-term collaboration, a 'partnership' with our customers, our suppliers and especially with our own employees

Growth and development at Rank1

Because we offer a wide range of specialized services, we can engage our people on a variety of projects. We take our employees' career plans into account and map out a path together. No body shopping with us. When talent comes our way, we find an appropriate challenge. We are proud that people choose to work and stay with us. There is hardly any turnover.

Incentive for growth and certification

People are encouraged to take control. Are you on the service desk and would like to learn about security? You can. We encourage our employees to get certificates. Each at their own pace. Those who stick their neck out can count on our support. By helping our consultants get to a higher level, we have a win-win situation. Both the consultant himself and our clients benefit.

No-nonsense approach and honesty

No-nonsense. That's our approach. We give honest advice. Don't beat about the bush. We hear the same from our customers. We don't try to sell the cheapest or most expensive solution, but the best for that customer in that environment. Raf De Backer, our director of professional services, and myself are technically savvy. We know what our people are doing and what their strengths are. We understand what the customer needs. That allows us to put the right people in the right place.

Company culture and team dynamics

So at Rank1, we say what's what. Even among colleagues. Honesty lasts the longest, and respect is the foundation of a good relationship.

I value a degree. Not that it is a must, some senior team members have educated themselves or are tops because of their years of experience. They have fought for it. With starters, a degree shows that they are able to handle an amount of learning. Because working in IT means you have to constantly educate yourself. A diploma is sometimes a good indication. We also look for intrinsic motivation in the selection procedure. Loving your job is crucial.

Open communication and team building at Rank1

We are not a hierarchical company. That has the great advantage that I am very close to my employees. I know what the team is doing and how they are doing. We call often and the door is always open. That is the climate, also at Gumption Group which we are part of. Before I started Rank1, I worked at large companies for many years. There you often find a totally different corporate culture, where managers shield themselves. The boss literally sits three floors up. At our office, consultants and management sit together. Together we form 1 team.

Of course there are also the team events. Every 2 months we organize a 'Drank1' drink for the whole team. We also organize a teambuilding activity twice a year (airzone, laser shoot, mini-karting, indoor skydiving...) For Rank1's 5th anniversary we went to Barcelona with the entire team and partners to celebrate. We participate in the Gumption events and a food truck has been coming by. That's all fun, but it's never the reason why people choose us. It's mostly about the job itself. About your growth opportunities and the team you end up in. The talents and ambitions match our growth objectives. And having fun every day. That's much more important."
