“We supply anything that can be controlled by smartphone, from drones to alarm systems”, says Luc Lisen, who has been the IT manager of the company for two decades now. From our warehouse in Hoegaarden we deliver products to telecom operators and large retail chains like Vandenborre or Aldi. Our major customer is Telenet. We send SIM cards to their end users, or hardware that comes with specific subscriptions.

After having started as a distributor in the early nineties, we have now evolved to much more than just a logistics service. “On demand of our customers, we started creating e-commerce solutions a few years ago. We build their websites and guarantee smooth order processing. Their IT and ours are connected through webservices.”

The IT department at A&C Systems consists of 16 people and is physically located next to the warehouse. “Half of the team consists of .NET developers, because internally we work with Microsoft products, both in the office and in the warehouse. The other half builds applications and e-commerce websites on behalf of our customers. They work with LAMP Stack and Magento, because initially Microsoft was not that strong in e-commerce. Basically, we know both worlds well.”

“The IT department is not a cost, it generates income”, says Luc Lisen. “We used to present the website as a bonus to our customers, in order to retain the them. But e-commerce evolved and gained importance, and it has now become a business in itself. We evolved from a distributor to an IT-company. Our production processes are tight and it is really crucial that everything is always up and running. Order processing, localising products in the warehouse, sending out parcels: everything needs to interlink seamlessly. An IT outage would paralyse our whole business.

" An IT outage would paralyse our whole business. Fortunately, we can count on Rank 1 "
